Let’s Start Planning for a Wedding!

Hello Brides and Grooms!

Many people have read the scrutiny surrounding celebrities like Jessica Simpson lately.  Yes, I am writing about the scrutiny over her weight, like it is any of our business. Nonetheless, the media frenzy over her made me think about all the brides out there, searching through the yards of tulle, satin, lace, sequins, pearls, etc. that can comprise a wedding gown.   Why did someone like Jessica Simpson make me think of the search for a perfect bridal gown?

The word “perfect.”

Now, I don’t believe anyone is “perfect,” but celebrities like Jessica Simpson are placed on a pedestal to an impossible “perfect” status.  So to see Jessica Simpson as anything less than where society has placed her is shocking to some.

To some brides, they spend countless hours looking for a dress that will fulfill their dream of looking perfect on a perfect day.  Supplementing the countless hours of searching is the pressure of finding a dress that will highlight curves; just so that the bride looks…well, perfect.

Gown-Shopping

As a former bride, my word of advice is that each bride’s definition of perfect is going to be different.  Let’s be real—

there will be brides that will be influenced by media’s perception of “perfect” and then there will be brides that boldly state, “Who cares.”

In the end, look for a dress that defines your style, coupled with empowering you to be the beautiful, and courageous woman you are.

Meanwhile, one suggestion for brides who really want to get into the wedding planning spirit (or instead of planning, at least daydreaming of what you want)—listen to possible music choices that you would like included during your ceremony.  For me, listening to wedding music was a great motivator!

Also, hopefully you have chosen who you want as your bridesmaids. If you have, now would be a good time to have a “Girl’s Day” and venture off with some of these close friends, and some members of your family (your mom, sister, even mother-in-law) to get ideas on their dresses.  This will help you to finalize your wedding color scheme, and see what your bridal party likes (or certainly, what they DON’T like).

Now is the time to find your ceremony and reception sites

If you have a wedding date in mind, it is important to book your site early.  Unfortunately, sometimes sites will be booked over a year in advance, and either a) the bride / groom have to move their wedding date or b) the bride / groom have to move their wedding to a different site.

Even an imperfect day can be perfect because you define what perfect means to you.

Enjoy it!
